YEAR OF THE GREAT STORM

Truth and Reconciliation in South Africa

The Year of the Great Storm is based on the true story of the life and death of American Fulbright Scholar, Amy Biehl. It is set in South Africa in the febrile year preceding Nelson Mandela's election as president, an election that followed decades of brutal apartheid rule.

The story follows her parents - grappling with the loss of their daughter - as they head to South Africa. Against all odds - their journey - along with that of their daughter's assailants - becomes one of reconciliation and forgiveness. This is the incredible true story of South Africa’s confrontation with race, of a trauma that affected an entire nation, and the extraordinary humanity that allowed those affected to moving forward.

The image consists of two parts: the top part is a portrait of a smiling young woman with light brown hair and a fair complexion. The bottom part shows a busy street scene in a town with many people, some holding signs and banners, surrounding a barricade. It appears to depict a protest or gathering.
